About Magnaflux Quasar

Magnaflux Quasar Systems is the world's leading supplier of resonance-based Nondestructive Test (NDT) systems.

Resonance testing is the ideal basis for effective NDT in volume applications. Other NDT methods identify defective parts by scanning for indications of the defect. The assumption is that the presence and size of the indication correlates with the in-service performance of the part. This assumption is not always true. Some indications are only superficial, and some defective parts show no indications. The result is that defective parts can be shipped while acceptable parts are scrapped. Resonance-based testing evaluates parts by measuring and comparing their resonant frequencies which are determined by their stiffness and dimensions - two fundamental parameters that do correlate to performance.

Historically, resonance testing was limited by the fact that small variations in the production process also affect the resonant frequencies, to the extent that all except the largest defects may be masked. Magnaflux Quasar developed Process Compensated Resonant Inspection (PCRI) to provide effective resonance testing in the presence of typical manufacturing process variations. Using PCRI, defective parts can be reliably rejected on the production line because PCRI results correlate directly to part performance.

Magnaflux Quasar customers test ferrous and non-ferrous castings, powder metal, forged, and ceramic parts for applications where cost is critical but shipping defective parts is unacceptable. They consistently report better NDT and much lower costs.
