Quasar 3000 Nondestructive Test System
The Quasar 3000 is Quasar's most recent implementation of Process Compensated Resonant Testing (PCRT). Its state-of-the-art nondestructive testing method combines the proven capabilities of Quasar's previous systems with improvements based on production experience gained in the delivery of more than 100 units. The Quasar 3000 is designed for in-factory testing of metal or ceramic parts that have part-to-part variations typical of a production process.
Quasar 3000 Features
- Multi-dimensional Resonance patterns that can detect defects even in the presence of large production variations.
- Temperature compensation to allow effective defect detection despite variations in the part's temperature
- I/O interfaces support automated material handling and other applications in a Windows environment.
The Quasar 3000 includes the following:
- Transceiver - generates the swept frequency signal to excite the part and detect the part's response vibrations.
- Control Computer - provides the operator interface, controls the Transceiver and the Test Station, makes the Accept/Reject decisions, and communicates with the parts handling PLC.
- Test Station - couples the part under test to the Transceiver. The test station includes transducers, cables and (for production Test Stations) operator control and status panel, part capture fixturing and temperature sensor. Two types of test stations are available:
- Test Stations to be used for production testing, typically customized for a particular part type or part family.
- Laboratory unit with universal test stations for development work on a variety of part types in a testing laboratory.
- Software - the GALAXY operating system for development work, the VIPR pattern recognition program, and QPRODUCT for production operations.

Production Test Stations
The Quasar Production Test Station ensures the most accurate part testing by including several critical features in a single package:
- The test station's capture plate allows for reliable and precise contact of the transducers to each part under test.
- A proximity switch detects when a part is in place and signals the production software to begin testing.
- A sensor measures the part's temperature and reports it to the production software which applys a patented compensation calculation to accurately correct frequency measurements.
- Shock mounting isolates the part from environmental noise and vibration while testing.
- Controls and Status panel to report test results and for local Test Station control.
Optional features include a Disposal Chute and Sensor, which provides positive confirmation that defective parts have been disposed of correctly.
Test Stations can be configured for either manual or automatic loading.
